THE Duke of Rothesay kept tradition alive when he attended Mey Games on Saturday.

Following in the late Queen Mother’s footsteps, Prince Charles returned to his role as games chieftain while on his annual holiday to Caithness.

He arrived to a packed arena escorted by local MP John Thurso and his wife, Marion, the Earl of Caithness Malcolm Sinclair and Caithness Lord-Lieutenant Anne Dunnett, amongst other invited guests.

The VIP guests arrived in three cars, with the prince driving his own Audi around the field before taking a seat in a marquee.

He was then given a piping show by Caithness Scouts Pipe Band which he is said to have enjoyed.

He later presided over the final of the tug-of-war and took time to speak to all the teams involved.

Tourists from across the world helped boost attendance at the games and the heavy events were all closely contested.

The event, which was held by the local branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland, was deemed a success by president Charlie Simpson.
