WINNERS from this year's Canisbay Show enjoyed a well-earned night of celebration at the annual dinner and trophy presentation held in the Seaview Hotel, John O'Groats.

Guest speaker at the event on Saturday was the recently retired Canisbay Church of Scotland minister, Lyall Rennie, who was accompanied by his wife Isobel.

Prominent among the prize-winners was Gordon Begg, who had completed a notable double when he took the supreme award at the show in early July.

His 18-month-old British Blue X home-bred heifer Double or Quits was chosen as champion of champions by judge Charlie Angus. It was the heifer’s second year of winning the Canisbay cattle honours and champion of champions title.

The reserve at the show went to Leoni Kennedy's overall champion pony, Popalbee Minnie Mouse.

The 2019 show queen was Heidi Newman of Canisbay, along with her attendants Mairi Hillhouse of East Mey and Dakota Skene of John O'Groats.

Speaking at the time, secretary Leeann Hope said the day had been a great success despite cool conditions.

She added: “We would like to express our thanks to the Kennedy family of Tresdale for allowing us to hold the show on the farm for another year. And a massive thank-you to all our committee and those who voluntarily helped on show day – it wouldn't be a success without them.”
