Some members of the Wick, Canisbay and Latheron branch of Royal British Legion Scotland gathered at the garden of remembrance beside Wick Town Hall on Saturday morning for a short ceremony in which a poppy cross was placed by the Lord-Lieutenant of Caithness, Lord Thurso.

Crosses were also placed by Legion representatives and members of the public to remember loved ones who had been lost in battle.

Also on Saturday, the Legion branch held a short service at the Soldiers' Tower on the North Head footpath. A poppy wreath was laid by Lord Thurso.

The tower commemorates local members of the armed forces lost in various battles overseas.

The events took place ahead of the Remembrance Sunday wreath-laying ceremony at Wick war memorial.
