Eight children from Castle View Stables, the riding school and Pony Club centre in Wick, acquitted themselves well after qualifying for the Pony Club national quiz final.

The stables' mini team finished second out of 12 teams, while the junior/senior team came seventh out of 13 teams at the event in Northampton.

Mini team members were Abbie Sinclair, Caitlin Macleod, Megan Mackenzie and Sarah Jane Payton. The junior/senior team consisted of Brooke Miller, James Meikle, Kaylah Wilkie and Maisie Statham.

Ashleigh Campbell, who owns Castle View Stables, said: "It just shows that hard work and dedication pays off and we will be back next year to participate again. It is hopefully an insight into what Pony Club has to offer young people to be recognised at national level."

Sponsored by Dodson and Horrell, the Pony Club quiz is an inclusive competition for ridden and non-ridden centre and branch members. It allows members to test their equestrian knowledge in a fun and friendly team environment.

Seventy teams competed over the day across four sections at Moulton College, having qualified in their areas. There are 19 Pony Club areas around the UK.
