Polls have just closed across the UK in the 2019 General Election with the results expected for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross expected around 3.30am.

The seat has been projected as a hold for Liberal Democrat Jamie Stone but the outcome is on a knife edge with the SNP’s Karl Rosie running him very close, while the Conservatives are expected to remain in power.

Five candidates in total entered the race for the constituency including one each from the four major parties and one from the Brexit Party.

Now Liberal Democrat’s Jamie Stone, the SNP’s Karl Calder Rosie, the Conservative’s Andrew David Sinclair, and the Brexit Party’s Sandra Skinner will be anxiously awaiting the result.

For that to happen 89 ballot boxes will be rushed to the count at Inverness Leisure Centre where simultaneously, votes from the two neighbouring Highland constituencies of Inverness, Nairn, Strathspey and Badenoch and Skye, Ross and Lochaber will also be tallied.

The count will be overseen by Highland Council chief executive Donna Manson supported by members of her top team of 18 top staff.
