Civic leader Willie Mackay wants to see community councils formed in the Caithness West and Tannach and District areas.

The county's civic leader is keen to see people in two Caithness districts take up the opportunity to form community councils.

Councillor Willie Mackay has repeated his plea for community-minded citizens in Caithness West and Tannach and District to become involved.

Speaking ahead of the closing date for nominations – February 26, at noon – Councillor Mackay said that, while the community councils had not been formed in the elections at the end of last year, "there is still time to see them back in action".

He added: “There are wonderful volunteers out there who feel passionate about their areas and I would like to see them put their names forward for election and act as an important voice for their community council.

"At present we have 10 active community councils up and running and I’d love to see the county back at full strength with two more."

Nomination forms and copies of the scheme of establishment can be downloaded from the community councils section of Highland Council website at www.highland.gov.uk/elections, or obtained from council service points, by phoning 01349 886657, or by email to elections@highland.gov.uk
