Tickets for Wick's three-day Santaland experience will go on sale next weekend, while plans are also in place for the annual festive Fun Day at the end of November.

Claire Mackenzie, chairperson of Wick Christmas Lights Committee, gave an update on the Christmas countdown at the monthly meeting of the Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council.

Santaland will be staged on December 8, 9 and 10, from 4pm until 8pm, in the Rosebank Playing Fields, which is run by Wick Youth Club. Tickets go on sale on Saturday, October 14, at Wick High School reception.

Mrs Mackenzie told community councillors on Monday: "After a bit of a lengthy debate with the youth club we've now got confirmation that Santaland is going ahead.

"We're open three days. I'd like to open more but my hands are tied. We've given them a donation of £250 every year for the use of the place."

She pointed out that there will be capacity for approximately 300 people spread over the three evenings.

It takes three days to set up the Santaland attractions, she added.

"It comes down to volunteers as well," Ms Mackenzie said. "We have such a small committee.

"I'd love to start it at the start of December and run it for the whole month. If we got to do that, it would really make us a good bit of money."

Wick Fun Day 2023 will be on Saturday, November 25, featuring market stalls, a grotto and a children's umbrella parade as well as the Christmas lights switch-on ceremony.

Last year's Fun Day drew a crowd of around 1000 to the town centre.
