PLANS are being floated to launch what would be the first scheduled ferry service between Caithness and Shetland.

Community and business representatives yesterday gave a warm welcome to the proposal which would provide a boost to jobs and tourism in the far north.

The direct sea link is being investigated by Pentland Ferries and Gills Harbour.
