A BID is being made to create a restaurant, bar and function room in a Thurso guest house. The proposal comes from Mr and Mrs L and M Lynch who run the business at the former Thurso Club building in Janet Street.
They have applied for a part change of use of the premises to incorporate the facilities, which includes the installation of an external staircase, flue, and signage. Three additional guest rooms would also be created as part of the plan.
The couple purchased the building when it was put on the market a few years ago and have operated it as a guest house but now want to extend the business to include a restaurant, bar and function room which would be open to the public and not just residents.
The application is before Highland Council and said to be "under consideration." The agents for the development are Knight McDonald Architects, Thurso.
It is understood a decision on the plan could be made by the end of the year.
According to papers lodged with the local authority, the proposed development would have "a variety of communal areas on the ground floor, including a dining room, lounge, lounge bar, toilets and lobby area. It would also comprise two bedrooms.
The first and second floors would have en-suite bedrooms."
The building was used as a private members' club with function rooms and multiple bars. It became a club in the 1950s and traded until its sale in 2018.
