A THURSO businessman is hoping to build nine houses on the outskirts of the town. Carl Swanson, who runs Riverside Replicas, has lodged an application for the project with Highland Council.

He wants to build the residential development at Duncanshill, Weydale, one-and-a-half miles south east of Thurso on 1.88 hectares of land which is open field and used as a horses paddock. The existing stable building will be demolished. According to the application, the site is "fairly flat and has access off Mount Pleasant Road."

Under the plan, nine houses would be provided, comprising a mix of three and four-bed detached one-and-a-half storey dwellings with detached garages.

Existing trees and hedges will be retained and managed while a landscaping scheme will be provided at a later date, it was stated.

The applicant's agent points out that in recent years "a number of detached dwellings have been constructed on adjoining land."

The plan, which is under consideration by Highland Council, was mentioned at last week's virtual meeting of the Castletown and District Community Council.

Secretary Liz Geddes said: "It will not effect us here but it may impact on people who live in that area."

The community council has until July 8 to comment on the application.
