Miller Academy Primary School in Thurso was a sea of colourful book characters on Thursday when pupils celebrated World Book Day.

Head teacher Jacqui Budge said: “Our families supported this so well and our children were delighted at being dressed up as a favourite book character.

"We paired our classes up for shared reading times and also enjoyed a whole school ‘Together Time’ so that we could all see and enjoy everyone’s outfits."

Teachers at the school also dressed up as either a ‘Little Miss’ or ‘Mr Man’ book character. Lauren Mackay, P5 teacher, had suggested the idea and all of the teachers were very enthusiastic about making their character, which the children enjoyed seeing them dressed up as.

World Book Day is a charity that aims to change lives through a love of books and reading, and its mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.
