A new trim trail in the grounds of Halkirk Primary School will allow the children to make the most of their outdoor time, according to the head teacher.

The equipment was fully funded by the Halkirk District Benefit Fund (HDBF) after an application from the school's parent council.

Fiona MacLeod, the head teacher for Halkirk and Reay schools, said: “We are so grateful to the HDBF for providing Halkirk Primary School with a grant to enable us to purchase a trim trail in our school grounds, for our pupils.

"It is such a huge amount of money which we would not have available without their generosity. The trim trail is such an asset to our school and will provide not only fun and enjoyment for our pupils but also provide them with an additional health and wellbeing activity outdoors, which we are continuously promoting.

"On behalf of Halkirk Primary School, we would like to say a massive heartfelt thank you to the HDBF."

Kerry Speirs, funding secretary at the parent council, said: "The trim trail is a wonderful additional to Halkirk Primary School's playground, giving the pupils a fantastic new area to play and explore.

"The parent council is delighted to see this now completed and are very grateful to the Halkirk District Benefit Fund who provided vital funding towards it."

Gillian Coghill, chairwoman of the benefit fund, added: "We were delighted to welcome this well thought out and presented application for funding. The parent council had certainly done their homework and there were several letters of support from the community.

"This addition to the school benefits the children from the Halkirk area and we hope provides outdoor exercise for many years to come."
