The original Miller Institution building (now Thurso Library) is 160-years-old this year and local kids made artworks to celebrate the historic milestone.
The logo on the children’s school uniform at Miller Academy Primary shows the building and to mark the anniversary its pupils, along with ELC and Scope children, were given special holiday homework assignments last month setting them the challenge of creating the number 160 out of any items that they chose.
Photos of these were printed and now make an interesting display in the welcome area of the school. The headteacher, Jacqui Budge, said: “We are so impressed by our children and their families' creativity. Some children used 160 items such as toy cars to make the number 160, some children used leaves, conkers and Groatie Buckies that they collected with their family while others drew or collaged it.
"Parents feedback [said] what a fun, active learning experience it had been and it was lovely that our parents also enjoyed it so much too.”
