Thrumster primary pupils have put their best foot forward to show the benefits of walking to and from school.
P1-7 youngsters have been taking part in Living Streets Scotland's Travel Tracker initiative since January. It is set up to encourage children and families to make healthy trips – and, if pupils are not able to walk, cycle, scoot or park and stride, there are opportunities for them to register healthy journeys in school too.
Principal teacher Lynsey Bremner explained: "At the end of each month, if they have registered enough healthy journeys to school, each child is rewarded with a badge, which is a different theme for each month and made out of recycled plastic – a win-win for all.
"In Walk to School Week [May 16-20], organised by Living Streets Scotland, Thrumster qualified as a top 10 school for Scotland in schools up to 250 pupils – a huge achievement, and we are extremely proud of them.
"We had a visit from the mascot Strider and the children were all absolutely thrilled."
Living Streets Scotland is part of the UK charity for everyday walking. Its aim is a nation where walking is the natural choice for everyday local journeys.
