Pupils from Thrumster Primary School recently got the chance to take part in lino printing sessions with local artist Katie Squires.

The art project for the P5-7 class was funded by the school's Parent Council. The schoolchildren worked with the artist over two sessions – during the first, pupils each designed a print inspired by local lighthouses, linking to their current class topic on Caithness.

Katie took these designs away and cut out the prints, bringing them back for the following session when pupils got to use black and blue ink along with the artist's own press to create two prints each.

School principal teacher Lynsey Bremner said: "The prints have turned out so well and I think we have a lot of pupils thinking about taking up lino printing as a new hobby."
