PICTURES: Stunning images shared by Pentland Canoe Club of expedition around Greek coast

Members of Thurso-based Pentland Canoe Club (PCC) shared incredible images from their “unforgettable” seven-day sea kayaking expedition around the Greek coastline.

Their journey took them to the more secluded regions of Kefalonia and Ithaca, where they explored dramatic coastlines, hidden beaches, and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The PCC members were Silvia Bonati, Caz Cundall, Nancy Speirs, Emma Summers, Ken Nicol, John Speirs, and Gerald Urquhart.

PCC secretary, Ken Nicol, said that throughout the adventure, the group immersed itself within the “rich history of the region while staying in charming small villages”. For some participants, this was their first multi-day kayaking trip, making the experience even more special.

Reflecting on the journey, Emma Summers said: "Paddling overseas was an exciting opportunity to discover a stunning coastline, glide through warm waters past towering cliffs, and discover hidden caves. A fantastic bonus was being able to swim during our paddling breaks!"

A surprising highlight of the trip was meeting a fellow kayaker from the west coast of America, Andrea Guerrero, who was astonished to learn that the club members were familiar with Embo. Andrea, happened to be the great-granddaughter of the composer of Grannie's Hielan' Hame.

She is now looking forward to visiting Scotland and paddling with the club members, and going to Embo.

Ken said that the adventure was organised by John Speirs in collaboration with Sea Kayaking Kefalonia, and with “such an incredible experience behind them”, the club is already planning a return trip next year.

PCC was formed in 1984 with the aim of promoting kayaking and canoeing in Thurso, west Caithness and north Sutherland. Further details on it can be found at: www.pentlandcanoeclub.org.uk
