A talent showcase on the world’s shortest street was such a success at the weekend that it is now set to be an annual event.

Entertainment ranging from singing and dancing to a visit from a petting farm drew a crowd of up to 200 to Ebenezer Place, part of Mackays Hotel in Wick.

Talent on the Shortest Street was the first event of its kind staged by the award-winning hotel, owned by Murray and Ellie Lamont, and ran from noon until about 3pm on Sunday in warm and sunny conditions.

"It was great," Ellie said. "We were really pleased with the first event on the shortest street in the world, and the weather was with us.

"We wanted to showcase the talent in our county, because we have so much of it, and being able to bring them all together was great.

"Julie Mackay, who works on our marketing side, came up with the idea and it worked out really well so we're already planning for next year. We plan to make it an annual event.

"Everyone enjoyed the dancers and the singers. There were some visitors to the county who stopped by and said they really enjoyed it and actually turned to me and said, 'You should make this an annual event.' I said, 'We are!'

"Everyone was supporting the acts – it was really great to see. It was yet another exhibition of the great community we've got in Caithness."

Entertainment was provided by Lorraine Bremner's Highland dancers and line dancers, Marrellian Majorettes, Keisha Sutherland Music, Fern Strachan, The Edge dance studio, Andy Harper, Sheppy and John Holmes, along with Elizabeth Jones and her daughter Olivia Singh.

Caithness Animal Farm Park petting farm offered meet-and-greet sessions in which members of the public encountered a royal python, a leopard gecko and other creatures.

No 1 Bistro occupies one end of Mackays Hotel at Ebenezer Place, officially the world’s shortest street at six feet and nine inches wide.
