PICTURES: School elections see Keiss and Bower pupils take on house leadership roles
Newly elected house captains and vice-captains at Keiss and Bower primary schools are looking forward to developing their leadership roles after being voted in by their fellow pupils.
Presentations were by the various candidates at both schools as they sought to convince their peers to vote for them. There were jingles and dances in presentations, while many candidates used each establishment’s vision, values and aims to promote their election bid.
The results were close and the winners were thrilled to be voted in.
Charlie Breeze (P6, Keiss Primary School and Nursery, said: “I was shocked and surprised to hear my name called out. It’s a brilliant feeling.”
George Miller (P6, Bower Primary School) admitted he had been slightly nervous presenting to other pupils but added: “It’s a great feeling.”

Noah Gunn (P6, Bower) said: “I’m really happy. I know there’s a lot of responsibility with the role and I’ll make sure the younger pupils are always included in house challenges.”
Head teacher Fraser Thomson explained that the process of preparing the election campaign had been a key feature of the return to school.
“Our learners looked at persuasive language, spoke about our respective vision, values and aims in each establishment and presented with great confidence to their peers,” Mr Thomson said.
“House elections and taking on leadership roles are an effective way for learners to take responsibility for their own learning and development, in turn developing their confidence in leading others.
“It’s great to see younger pupils in the school being voted into these roles. It develops the idea to other pupils that leadership roles can be achieved by having the confidence and initiative to succeed, no matter your age.
“I know the pupils have some excellent ideas for our first house challenge of the term and we look forward to linking a house challenge across both establishments in the near future.”
