Bookshelves were stocked and costumes were donned as residents and staff at Pentland View care home in Thurso embraced World Book Day with enthusiasm on Thursday.

Staff and residents alike dressed up as beloved characters, such as Harry Potter and Captain Underpants, adding to the fun.

Activities included a trip to the library, shared readings of favourite stories, a literary quiz, and a screening of Beauty and the Beast.

Many residents reminisced about the books they once read to their families.

Activities Co-ordinator Jeanine Sinclair highlighted the importance of reading for residents, noting their regular engagement with books, newspapers, and magazines.

She said: “Our residents all enjoy reading in some form on a regular basis; whether it be newspapers, magazines, novels, Caithness reminiscence books, or other media.

“We are very lucky to receive regular donations from our local community. We try to keep our shelves stocked for them and always enjoy our regular library outings.

“Today we took a light-hearted approach to World Book Day and it was so much fun for everyone!”

General manager Megyn Todd provided books and costumes for the event, emphasizing how stories sparked fond memories for residents.

“The books brought back memories of the residents reading to their own children,” she said.

“This brings enjoyment to our carers, who then enjoyed hearing life stories from the residents.”
