Pupils and staff at Noss Primary School (NPS) in Wick gathered at a special assembly as the new house captains were announced for the year ahead.
Before the summer holidays, consultation amongst pupils, staff and parents was sought around ways in which to rebrand and refresh the house system at NPS. The theme of castles in Caithness was chosen and six new houses were created considering pupils’ suggestions.
Headteacher Fraser Thomson said: "The initiative marks the re-introduction of the house system in school and further encourages the aspect of pupils' voices being heard. It follows on from Noss Primary setting up 11 new committees across the school ranging from Digital Leaders and an Eco Committee to a Schools Nutrition Action Group and Junior Road Safety Officers."
Sinclair Girnigoe, Halberry, Ackergill, Gunn, Old Wick and Mey were chosen as the new house teams. All of the pupils in the school and ELC were allocated to a house with staff members being allocated to a house team also.
Earlier in the week, prospective candidates presented to their peers and votes were cast to decide on the positions of house captain, vice-captain and junior vice-captain. School staff supported the election process and votes were counted and verified by the school’s Senior Leadership Team.
