Pupils and staff at Noss Primary School and Early Learning Centre (ELC) celebrated World Book Day on Thursday, March 2.

Learners at the school made the most of the opportunity to dress as their favourite book characters with reports of sightings of Gangsta Granny, human dictionaries, Harry Potter, Where’s Wally, Horrid Henry and dinosaurs. All of the staff team sported outfits, as various Little Miss and Mr Men characters, which was well-received by pupils and families.

The kids took part in various activities across the day with Primary 1 pupils building a reading den in the afternoon for children to read their favourite stories in class while older pupils read with reading buddies.

Head teacher, Fraser Thomson, read a selection of stories to the pupils in the lower school. He said: “World Book Day celebrates the love of what we read and provides an opportunity to share stories with our pupils, colleagues and families.

"Reading for pleasure and about our interests makes reading so much more purposeful. We want to encourage reading for enjoyment in our school and ELC community. Spending just 10 minutes a day reading and sharing stories with children can make a huge difference to their future success.

"In the lead up to World Book Day, our dedicated pupil support team have helped re-organise our school library. They have taken time to train a large group of pupils who have volunteered to help look after our library."

Mr Thomson added: "I am extremely grateful to our pupil support team for their hard work and dedication. Our library is a key resource in our school and helps to inspire and develop good habits in reading.”

Library books galore.
