Born in 1935, Mina was one of seven children born to Willie and Magsie Miller. Mina spent her early years living in Bilbster and later moved to Milton. When she got married to John in 1955, she moved to Papigoe for a short while, then moved to Wick, where she has lived ever since. Her first job was in the bus office. Bookkeeping was her chosen profession, and several jobs followed. After having her family, Norman and Jackie, she worked in E Campbell the bakers, Geordie Jack’s electricians, the Back Bridge Street Club, and finally ran a B&B for several years with her second husband Chester in East Banks. Mina retired from running the B&B when she married Alistair.

She has three grandchildren, Fiona, Jill and Jason, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.

Mina was a dedicated member of the St Fergus Church choir for many years, and her fellow choristers attended the afternoon tea party, presenting her with a special walking stick decorated with musical notes to remind her of her time there.

Her daughter Jackie said: “Mum suggested that her guests should give a donation to Highland Hospice rather than buying her a gift, and an incredible £410 was raised. Through the Highland Hospice Day event, whereby donations were doubled by Heather’s Heroes, the total was £820. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed.

“Additional thanks to Addie Harper who provided excellent musical entertainment throughout the afternoon, Ellie and Murray Lamont from Mackay’s Hotel for the lovely afternoon tea, and Eswyl Fell for taking all the brilliant photos of the occasion.”
