Pupils at Miller Academy Primary School in Thurso got themselves kitted out in an array of imaginative costumes as they marked the 25th anniversary of World Book Day.

Head teacher Jacqui Budge said: "Our families, as usual, made a magnificent effort to support this event and our school was a sea of book characters, which was just lovely.

"We had planned for each class to also visit the library but were unable to do this due to staff shortages. However, the teachers and staff did brilliantly to have books and reading at the centre of the day's learning.

"It was lovely to have so many children dressed up and they were keen to talk about the books they were reading."
