THERE were smiles all round at a right royal Canisbay occasion attended by the King at the weekend.

Charles III stopped off at Canisbay Church at the weekend to unveil a flagstone plaque and plant a tree in the grounds to celebrate his coronation.

Those present for the event included the Rev Janet Easton-Berry, and Mod Gold Medal Winner and BBC Scotland weather presenter Joy Dunlop who had sung solo and with Melvich Gaelic Choir during the service in Canisbay Church.

The beloved dog of the church’s long-serving organist, the late Mary Edmondson, also attended alongside new owner Murray Watts from Freswick Castle.

And the wee pooch, Poppy, brought a big smile to the King’s face during the happy occasion. Charles had left the dog’s late owner delighted and gobsmacked last August when he surprised her with flowers and a certificate at a ceremony honouring her dedicated service to the church.
