Pupils and staff at Keiss Primary School and Nursery and Bower Primary School donned outfits dedicated to their favourite literary characters as they celebrated the 25th anniversary of World Book Day on Thursday.
The youngsters had fun-filled reading experiences across the day including working with reading buddies and taking part in a book world cup tournament, while each stage enjoyed a story read by the head teacher.
Pupils tucked in to a themed lunch provided by school cook Pamela Jack.
Head teacher Fraser Thomson said he was grateful to staff, pupils and families for making a special effort.
“World Book Day is a great way of raising awareness around the importance of reading," he said. "The staff went to great lengths to ensure that pupils at both schools and nursery celebrated the occasion through exciting experiences.
"The residents of Keiss and Bower could have been forgiven for thinking they had woken up in their favourite story or comic book on Thursday morning. We had Mr Wormwood, Where’s Wally, Spider-Man, Horrid Henry, Willy Wonka and Little Red Riding Hood to name a few!”
