Youngsters in Thurso got into the party spirit to celebrate the first anniversary of the town's junior parkrun event on Sunday.

The sun was shining for the occasion at Millbank Boating Pond, with an above-average turnout of 25 junior parkrunners.

The morning started with a birthday-themed warm-up led by event director Marie Cuthbert. There were balloons, birthday cake and musical statues was played as part of the warm-up.

Half-marathon bands were given out to Max and Lachlan before starting for completing 11 runs, while Amber and Jaik ran their half marathons (11th run) and Cal ran his marathon (21st run). Beatrix and Annabel joined the fun on their holiday to Thurso from Bath and there were two other first timers, Mikolaj and Iona.

There were personal bests for Callan, Harris, Amber, Max and Cameron.

After completing their parkrun there was juice, water, sweets and crisps for the juniors and cake and coffee for the parents and volunteers.

Marie said: "There was a great atmosphere at juniors on Sunday to celebrate our first birthday. The sunshine helped and it was great to see the kids taking part and then heading to the playpark, with their juice and snacks.

"The boating pond has such a great buzz to it on Sunday morning."

She added a massive thank you to the volunteers on Sunday for helping put on a great birthday celebration.
