PICTURES: End of term awards celebrations at Noss Primary School in Wick

Pupils, colleagues, families and friends gathered at Noss Primary School (NPS) and Early Learning Centre’s (ELC) end of term service and awards ceremony on Wednesday morning (June 26).

Headteacher Fraser Thomson had said that the year had passed “in the blink of an eye” and that the ceremony recognise the achievements of pupils across the school and allowed for an opportunity to say some goodbyes. Former headteacher, Alistair Budge was a special guest along with Carina Campbell, pupil support assistant at NPS and Allan Bruce of Wick Paths Group (WPG) as they were on hand to present awards across the morning.

Mr Thomson acknowledged the efforts of the school and ELC team over the session, welcomed new class teachers Lindsey Anderson and Rhea Sinclair to the teaching team and said farewell to departing staff members Judith Scott, Andrea MacGregor, Kate Sutherland, Jessica Stewart, Amanda Gibbon, Gemma Sutherland and Chloe McGachan who are moving on to new challenges.

The awards ceremony provide an opportunity to recognise the efforts of the school netball club along with learners who had completed Level 1 – Bikeability training. Erna Thain won the WPG logo competition while Lucy Sinclair won the Wick Gala programme design competition. The school award winners were as follows:

  • Noss Primary Shield for Art – Kara Harrold
  • Mr Budge School Values Award – Emma Mackay and Carson Dunnet
  • Dane Gunn Trophy for most effective contributor – May Douglas and Jack Campbell
  • John Craig Shield for Art – Mae Whitelaw
  • Quarter-centenary quaich for Writing – Liam Muir
  • Gary Macleod sports trophy – Connor Carter

The departing Primary 7 is the first to come all the way through NPS after the building officially opened in 2016. The pupils read a poem to celebrate their time at school to the audience and family members who stayed behind afterwards.
