PICTURES: Computer generated images reveal how Tongue Hotel will look following extensive renovation
Highland Coast Hotels has released computer-generated images of how the interior of the Tongue Hotel is expected to look following a major renovation.
Work is under way to modernise the hotel, a former 19th century sporting lodge. It is expected to reopen in early April.
Highland Coast Hotels say the hotel's historic charm, including original wood panelling, antique furnishings and cosy open fires, will be retained.
There will be local artwork by Rona Kant and Katherine Sutherland, and black and white photography of the local landscape by photographer Glyn Slatterly.
The refurbished 40-cover restaurant has been named Varrich after a nearby Viking castle. A new protected decking area for al fresco dining has been added. And the popular Brass Tap Bar is also being revamped.
There will be 19 individually-styled guest rooms including a new "Deluxe Feature" bedroom which comes with an open fireplace and freestanding roll top bath.
Highland Coast Hotels chairman David Whiteford said: "We have invested a significant amount of time, money, care and attention to detail to give the Tongue Hotel a sympathetic and contemporary makeover."
Highland Coast Hotels is also currently renovating the Plockton Inn. The redevelopment of the two hotels is being supported by Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
