Community groups and a local business helped ensure youngsters were able to enjoy some Easter un over the school holidays.

Latheron, Lybster and Clyth Community Development Company (LLCCDC) united with Caithness Community Connections (CCC) and local firm, John Gunn and Sons Ltd to provide some Easter fun and sweet treats for the young people in the area.

The event took place on April 3, and although originally planned for the football pitch, there was a last minute relocation to Lybster Primary School due to the wet underfoot conditions.

More than 25 people attended the fun event, which was created by Alex Henderson, who recently began as centre and development manager with LLCCDC.

Alex was responsible for creating the clues and posters with Caithness Community Connections staff, coordinating the event and running it on the day.

Alex said “I wanted to create an event that the youngsters would enjoy, which also gave me the opportunity to meet and work with some of the fantastic people and organisations who operate in the area. I also enjoy creating and planning events so it was ‘right up my street’”.

On the day, CCC staff; Claire, Heather and Sammy coordinated the teams and everyone worked together to read and solve the clues, writing their answers down as they went along. Once all 10 clues were solved, it was a short walk to the community hall – the usual meeting place for Caithness Community Connections activities, and time for some games, colouring in, snacks and presentation of the easter eggs.

The event was kindly sponsored by well-established local firm, John Gunn and Sons Ltd of Swiney, Lybster who provided an Easter egg for everyone. Gunns’ are involved in building, construction, site development and expansion, land reclamation, quarry services and plant.

Ian Gunn, managing director, was “delighted to sponsor the event”.

The company office and hub operate from Seaview House in Harbour road, Lybster and provides a range of educational and recreational activities and training courses, along with meeting room facilities. In addition there is a fully equipped tool shed and numerous green fingered activities to encourage locally grown fruit and vegetables.

Caithness Community Connections was set up in 2019 to help individuals connect with their own and other communities. They provide educational and recreational activities and strive to provide relief for anyone in need, whether this is by age, ill-health, disability or financial hardship. They currently provide regular youth clubs and messy play amongst other assistance within the area.
