A FORMER Wick High School pupil and Thurso College student returned to Caithness last week to give a talk to Thurso Camera Club about his work.
Glasgow-based photographer Gavin Macqueen, who lived at Oldhall, Watten, and Larel, Halkirk, was at the Pentland Hotel to discuss the stories behind the pictures in his Journey to the Edge fine art photography exhibition held at Glasgow Art Club in July and August.
He focused particularly on four Caithness works from the show, which included an anecdote on how a bottle of Old Pulteney whisky played a part in his picture of Morven.
Gavin also explained the background to his Flow Country image of Loch More, his view of a misty Dunbeath Castle and the use of smoke bombs at the restored Thrumster railway station to stage an atmospheric fashion shoot for the picture Lady and the Last Train, which was used recently on the cover of Scotland Correspondent magazine. The latter image, which features Francesca Flynn, was staged with the assistance of Ian Giles, of Yarrows Heritage Trust.
