Peter Martin and his sheepdog Daisy secured two wins out of a possible three at the latest set of sheepdog trials to be held in the county.

Trialling stretched over three days – from July 9-11 – with two trials being held at 5 Lybster, Forss, by Fiona and Mure Grant, and the final one orchestrated at Ham Farm, Dunnet, by Tina Coghill.

The hat-trick of trials were established as part of a fundraising effort for this year’s Scottish National Sheep Dog Trials, to be held at Forss by permission of the Shearer family of Lythmore Farm.

On the first day of trialling at Forss, the sheep worked well on the course but were flighty at hand and proved extremely difficult to pen.

However, Ian Wilkie from Aberdeen and his six-year-old bitch Pip (I Wilkie’s Floss x R Hutchison’s Sweep) handled the hill Cheviot gimmers to perfection and secured the winning run on 96 points.

Michael Shearer and his young dog Heiland Rab (T Coghill’s Dahl x Dot) topped the county class on 85 points and came sixth in the open.

The second trial at Forss on the Saturday saw the gimmers work better at the pen and in shedding ring. Again on an identical score, Michael and Heiland Rab won the county section, with Peter Martin and Daisy winning the open trial outright on 92 points.

Success followed again for Daisy and Peter on the Sunday at Ham Farm, with the deadly duo securing the winning run on a grand total of 94 points.
