SUNDAY was a special day for animal lovers at churches in Castletown and Canisbay.

The congregations of Olrig Church in Castletown and Canisbay Church gave thanks to God for the comfort that pets provide and for all the hard-working therapy and service animals.

The Rev Lyall Rennie conducted the services along with Issy Currie from Castletown who has a Pets as Therapy Labrador dog called Corrie. Mr Rennie said that both services were well attended and the day was deemed a great success by all.

"We had five dogs at Olrig and six dogs at Canisbay plus an African grey parrot as well as some soft toys," he added.

All the animals were reported to have been very well behaved on the day.

"The African grey parrot, who normally has plenty to say, didn’t say a thing despite much coaxing. And a bulldog, which went to sleep, snored loudly – much to the amusement of the congregation."
