Pennyland pupils in Thurso enjoy 'Fairyland' ball
Young pupils at Pennyland Primary in Thurso spent last term living in a fairytale world as they helped a friendly dragon called Duncan.
The dragon's Fairyland home had disappeared, and it was up to the pupils in Primary 1, 1/2 and 2/3 to help bring it back to life.
Each class created their own Fairyland in their rooms including a castle and a beanstalk. The children immersed themselves into a variety of well-known fairytales and produced written work, artwork and studied healthy eating which all linked with their "Fairyland" topic. They even grew their very own beanstalks.
During the last week of term, the children held a grand ball and invited friends and family to come along to take part in all things fairytale related. They were treated to a song by the children and then took part in cake decorating, mask making, colouring in and storytelling activities.
Some of the adults even dressed up for the occasion. Pennyland staff were bowled over at the number of visitors who came to celebrate with the children and very much appreciated their time and support.
Head teacher Laura Murray said: “The pupils were given a super experience through their Fairyland topic which concluded with their Fairyland Ball. The ball was a great opportunity to have our parents and carers come into school and be part of the final event.
"Each child was given the role as a guide and took their parents through a learning walk which showcased all their fabulous learning and experiences throughout the term.
"A big thank you to all the parents and carers who were able to join us for our special event and also to our wonderful hard-working staff team for providing such a fantastic experience for our children.”
