Pennyland Primary School in Thurso is celebrating the diamond anniversary of the school opening in 1962.

As part of the celebrations, the school held a "Shine Bright Like A Diamond Day" where everyone wore bright, sparkly colours and to promote wellbeing, the parent council invited children to complete a sponsored fundraiser called “Wellbeing 60 Challenge” during the month of September.

Some pupils swam 60 lengths of the pool while others did 60 bounces on their trampoline. One P1/2 pupil wrote out 60 recipes which were then made into a cookbook and two P6 girls baked and sold 60 cakes at their own bake sale.

Head teacher, Laura Murray, said: “The efforts were fantastic and we are so very proud of our pupils.

"Their hard work raised £4735.90 and along with a very generous donation of £981 from Dounreay Communities Fund, the grand total raised for school funds is £5716.90. We are just blown away and would like to thank parents, carers and the community for their incredible support.”

Local photographer Jill Innes deployed her drone and took an aerial photograph of the whole school standing in the shape of the number 60.

The school would also like to thank Donald Durrand, contracts manager at GMR Henderson, who came across the original building blueprints of the school when expanding the Early Learning Centre.

These were framed and presented to the school by Rev David Malcolm during a celebration assembly where he spoke about the importance of "helping one another and how each pupil shines bright in their own unique way". These now have pride of place in the school corridor.
