Passers-by concerned over rotting seal carcass in Wick.
A DEAD seal lying on the banks of Wick River is to be removed by the Highland Council.
The assurance was given to Landward Caithness councillor Willie Mackay who had been approached by members of the public concerned that the carcass had been there for some days.
The dead seal is lying at the back of the Wetherspoons’ building, not far from the town centre.
Mr Mackay said on Thursday: "It’s a very unsightly situation as the carcass is rotting away so close to the passing public.
"However, I called at the council’s environmental health department in Wick and was told that they had been inundated with calls about the dead seal and that the situation was in hand.

"They were just waiting for the appropriate lifting gear in order to remove the carcass."
Mr Mackay added: "What made matters more unsightly was the amount of rubbish that was washed up and strewn over a good length of the riverbank."
