Managing director of HIAL Inglis Lyon is pleased with the results for August.

PASSENGER numbers at Wick Airport rose by 5.3 per cent last month, according to figures released today by Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd.

In August 2528 people used the airport compared with 2400 for the corresponding month a year ago – a rise of 128.

Inglis Lyon, managing director for HIAL, said the results highlighted the success for the area as a tourist destination.

"This is a boost to the Scottish tourism sector and the economy of the Highlands and Islands," he said.

"We are pleased to report that a further 7504 passengers passed though HIAL’s 11 airports during August in comparison to this time last year."
