‘Ozzy’ Osborne heads for Groats in Convoy for Heroes challenge
“OZZY” Osborne is set to come to Caithness – along with an “ape” – to promote a fundraising venture.
However, to avoid confusion, it is not the ageing rocker who will be pulling into the John O’Groats car park on Wednesday but rather Land Rover enthusiast Kevin “Ozzy” Osborne, from Blackwater in Surrey.
He set out on Saturday in an eye-catching 30ft rig consisting of a Land Rover towing the Convoy for Heroes promotional trailer, accompanied by the event’s mascot, Orang’ey the Orangutan.
The pair hope to help raise awareness of Convoy for Heroes 2012, an annual two-day family event culminating in an attempt to achieve the Guinness World Record for longest Land Rover convoy.
Convoy for Heroes is organised on a voluntary basis by a team of dedicated Land Rover enthusiasts to support Help for Heroes.

Departing from Littlehampton in West Sussex, “Ozzy” and Orang’ey are now travelling between the four cardinal points on mainland Britain, including John O’Groats, to raise the profile of the event.
Orang’ey, who usually lives at a Land Rover dealership in Lancashire, became something of a mascot after he led 350 Land Rovers round the Jaguar Land Rover test track on Easter Sunday. The event has so far raised over £15,000 for the injured service personnel charity.
Convoy for Heroes 2012 will be held over the Easter weekend at Prestwold Hall in Leicestershire.
*Supporters of Convoy for Heroes and fans of Orang’ey will be able to follow the trip on Facebook and Twitter, and read Orang’ey’s blog. It will also be possible to view Orang’ey’s position online in real time thanks to a tracking device provided by Skytag.
