A driver who executed an overtaking manoeuvre at 75mph in a 40mph limit has been fined £200.

Troy Anderson (20) also incurred three penalty points after he admitted a charge of careless driving at Wick Sheriff Court, on Wednesday. The charge was reduced from one of dangerous driving.

Police on patrol observed Anderson, a first offender, overtaking two cars on the A9 Scrabster to Thurso road on May 21.

Fiscal David Barclay stressed that there was nothing wrong with the manner that Anderson had carried out the overtaking manoeuvre but in doing so he had exceeded the speed limit.

Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said that Anderson, of Haimer House, Weydale, accepted that his actions had not been appropriate.
