Caithness entertainer Brandon McPhee admitted he had been taken by surprise after he received his latest musical accolade at the end of a show in Ireland.

The talented accordionist, who will be 26 later this month, was presented with the Hot Country TV award for outstanding contribution to music at the Everyman Theatre in Cork last week.

The presentation was arranged by Cork-based Hugh O'Brien, founder and host of Hot Country TV, Europe’s longest running country music show, and the Galway Crystal memento was handed over by presenter Eilish O’Sullivan.

Brandon explained: "We're friendly with Hugh and he runs some shows for us. At the very end, all of a sudden he came on with this trophy for us, along with Eilish O’Sullivan.

"It was really a nice surprise and a nice end to the concert.

"I was really pleased. It's another award to bring back to Caithness which means the most to me. It's recognition for all the work and effort that you've put in over the years."

Brandon also performed at the Tuar Ard arts centre in Moate.

He and his band – Manson Grant, Robert Cameron, Geoff McCook and Lyndon McCook – will be playing a series of Christmas concerts in December.

First, though, Brandon will be joining veteran Irish duo Foster and Allen on their tour of England.

"When we come back we'll be right into our Christmas concerts," Brandon said.

These include the Royal British Legion club in Thurso on Monday, December 5, and Pulteneytown Parish Church in Wick on Tuesday 6th, as well as dates in Perth, Portree, Dingwall and Elgin.

Tickets can be ordered online through Pan Records.

In April, Brandon was named among the winners in the 10th Hot Country TV awards. He was presented with the Shand Morino Accordion Player of the Year accolade at the event in County Cavan.

Brandon had been touring in Ireland with Manson Grant, Robert Cameron, Addie Harper and Geoff McCook.
