MY HOPES FOR 2022: Councillor Bremner, Wick and East Caithness

Community spirit will stand Caithness in good stead in the post-pandemic recovery, according to Highland councillor Raymond Bremner.

His overriding wish for 2022 is that local communities and businesses "see some real light at the end of the Covid-19 tunnel".

Councillor Bremner, who represents Wick and East Caithness on Highland Council, is among a number of elected representatives, business leaders and others in the public eye who have been invited to set out their main hopes for the coming 12 months.

"The local community, various agencies and third-sector organisations, with a particular shout out to Caithness Voluntary Group, have been working tirelessly to support so many to get through what seems like a never-ending merry-go-round," he said.

"We have a fabulous local community spirit and, if I could pick one stand-out event that highlighted that this past year, it was the Storm procession through Wick as part of the Northern Lights Festival – it made many people feel good and so happy. It’s that community spirit that gives us hope for an exit from the effects of Covid-19.

"Secondly, I hope for a quick recovery for our communities and individuals who have been so badly affected by the pandemic. Many have lost loved ones, lost their jobs, have seen their families and friends adversely affected. I would hope for a brighter future for everyone who has found themselves facing really difficult times.

"Thirdly, I hope for a happier, better, brighter and more positive future for us all. I think our communities, families and friends deserve it.

"There is so much doom and gloom when we turn on the television or radio, so here’s hoping for a lot more cheer and positive news in 2022."
