OUTDOOR enthusiasts have been treated to a number of recent sightings of the majestic killer whale around the Caithness coastline.

The orca have been spotted a number of times in the past week, including four seen heading south around Bruan, Thrumster, and a single bull seen west in the Pentland Skerries heading west.

As bulls always rejoin their pod, it is believed there must be a number of killer whales somewhere nearby and people are advised to get out themselves to see what they might spot.

The orca’s smaller brothers – minke whale, harbour porpoise and dolphins – have also been playing in the seas around the county and Lybster seems to be a popular spot for them right now.
