BIG-hearted kids at Canisbay primary have been inspired by Oor Wullie to raise hundreds of pounds for a hospital charity.
The pupils held a read-a-thon over a week and then had a day when they dressed in pyjamas and enjoyed a variety of activities, including a guess the staff member’s favourite book competition and a book-themed 100 square fundraiser. The nursery children joined in by donating money to dress up in pyjamas.
As a result they raised £726.17 for the Archie Foundation, which supports the Highland Children’s Unit at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness and all child health across the north of Scotland and the Northern and Western Isles.
The fundraiser was held as part of Oor Wullie's Big Bucket Trail. Earlier in the year Canisbay school had been given a Wee Oor Wullie sculpture to decorate, which then went on display in Inverness Library along with others from the Highlands, including one from Castletown primary.
The exhibition was held as part of a wider summer event which saw larger sculptures being decorated by established artists and displayed in locations around Scotland, all to raise awareness and vital cash for children's hospital charities.
The school fundraiser marked the return home of Canisbay's Wee Oor Wullie.
Head teacher Rhona Moodie praised the children's efforts, saying the amount collected was "amazing for such a small school". She added: " I would like to thank the pupils and parents for helping us to raise so much."
