POLICE have reported that only one motorist was arrested over the Christmas weekend for drink-driving in Caithness.

The 42-year-old man was pulled up by officers in Scrabster at 11.47pm on Christmas Eve at which point he failed a Breathalyser test.

The man was then transported to Thurso Police Station where he was later released on bail.

Acting sergeant Brian Hamilton said it is encouraging that the figure for motorists in the Far North is so low.

A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
