THE makers of Old Pulteney have come up with a novel way to relieve the festive stress – a video featuring the calming sounds of Wick and the surrounding area.

The brand is urging people to Let it Slow and has taken inspiration from the world of ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) to produce a video soundtrack that uses the relaxing sound of lapping sea waves combined with the rhythmic tempo of the local team crafting Old Pulteney’s single malt in the town's distillery.

ASMR is a feeling of wellbeing combined with a tingling sensation in the scalp and down the back of the neck, experienced by some people in response to a specific gentle stimulus, often a particular sound – in this case, the sea.

Sounds of Wick, which is just over 15 minutes long, is available on YouTube and is set against footage capturing the natural beauty of the Wick area. With sweeping beaches and towering cliffs, the area is a key destination on the popular North Coast 500 and Wick has been the home of Old Pulteney since 1826.

Distillery manager Malcolm Waring said: “We’re no stranger to patience here in Wick – after all, we started working to fulfil this year’s Christmas wish lists over a decade ago in the making of Old Pulteney 12 Years Old.

"Making whisky is a slow and careful process, and our team are exceptionally lucky that we get to do so by the sea. The opportunity to have a calming stroll along the coast after work certainly brings a more gentle pace to things.

“I’m always remarkably proud to share Old Pulteney across the world, but this Christmas I’m equally proud to share a little piece of our home town with our Let it Slow soundtrack. It goes down a treat with a dram.”

The Sounds of Wick video soundtrack has been produced by the makers of Old Pulteney, and is the perfect accompaniment to a relaxing dram this festive season.
