OVER £6800 was raised for Wick lifeboat station at a charity ball which was held in the town.

The Old Pulteney Prohibition Ball, which started in 2007, commemorates the repeal of prohibition in Wick and is the only event of its kind in Scotland.

Over 100 people attended and contributed to the chosen charity through ticket sales and a prize draw.

A highlight of the evening was the Old Pulteney Maritime Achievement Award given annually to a local resident who has contributed greatly towards the community and the maritime industry.

This year’s winner was Thrumster-born Jock Bissett, who has dedicated over 69 years of service to the local maritime industry.

Malcolm Waring, Pulteney Distillery manager, said: “This year’s ball was yet again another great success. We were thrilled to have raised over £6800 for the RNLI and were delighted to present Jock Bissett with the Old Pulteney Maritime Achievement Award.”
