Workers constructing the renewable energy switching station at Noss Head have handed over £2000 to the Caithness FM Toy Appeal in the run-up to Christmas.

The contractors at the SSEN Transmission site near Wick ran a raffle and donated the proceeds to the annual appeal, which ensures festive gifts are delivered to disadvantaged children across the county.

Management of the companies involved in the massive project donated the prizes and the raffle raised more than £1700. BAM Nuttall, SSEN Transmission's principal contractor for civil works, rounded this up to the £2000 mark.

Caithness FM’s Jackie Johnson called it an "unbelievable" sum and thanked the companies for their help.

"The support from the people of Caithness shown to the children of Caithness is absolutely fantastic and we really do appreciate it," she said.

The community radio station arranged a number of collection points in Thurso and Wick, urging people to dig deep after the difficulties created by the pandemic.

Caithness FM provided gifts for more than 370 disadvantaged children in Caithness in 2020 and was expecting the need to be even greater this year.

All gifts donated are distributed locally.
