North Coast 500 named among top five coastal road trips in the world
THE North Coast 500 was only launched three months ago, but already it has been named as the fifth best coastal road trip in the world!
Now Travel magazine has named the Highland route among the best six coastal road trips on the planet where it has been ranked as number five.
The route was the creation of North Highland Initiative who officially launched the route in May but already it has captured the imagination of the tourist industry.
The route stretches from Inverness to the West Highland coast and travels up to Cape Wrath before turning east towards North Sutherland and Caithness and then heading south back to Inverness.
The route is predicted to be of major benefit to the Caithness tourism industry which has attempted to battle against being tagged as a gateway to Orkney for decades.

Cape Overberg in South Africa was named as the number one coastal road trip with the Amalfi Coast in Italy second and The Atlantic Road in Norway third. The Pacific Coast Highway in America was ranked fourth with North Coast 500 fifth and the Coral Coast in Australia sixth.
