Six local dance couples are preparing to strut their stuff when they take to the stage for Strictly Come Dancing in the Assembly Rooms, Wick, on Thursday (December 29).

The contestants have been busy practising their dance routines in the build up to the live show which has been a sellout, with tickets being snapped up very quickly.

The event is being held as a fundraiser for Friends of the North Baths.

Those partnering up for the competition are: Alan Plowman and Abbie Gunn, Davina Lyall and David Shearer, Jennifer Martin and Gary Morris, Anne Cormack and Alastair Ferrier, Ryan Edwards and Michelle Robertson, and Catherine Patterson and Dariusz Sapalsk. They will do their own choice of dance.

All money raised will go towards the North Baths maintenance fund.

The judges for the evening will be Allan Bruce, Kelly Davidson, Marney Bruce and Ali Glen, with John Glen as the compere.

Unsure if December 29 would be the best date for a show, organiser Patty Coghill is delighted that people are so keen to come along.

Joking that most were not real dancers, she said: "We are from the time they just had the Caithness shuffle – for people trying to do a waltz it is not going to be easy. They will be doing their own Caithness interpretation of Latin American dances. It is going to be funny."

Local singer Lisa Douglas, from Bower, will be performing during the evening and previous Wick Gala strictly winners Morven Coghill and Mark McCoustra will entertain the audience with a demonstration dance, and they will be presenting the disco ball to the new champions.

Friends of the North Baths are also doing a festive family quiz in the Assembly Rooms, Wick, on Tuesday, December 27, starting at 7pm.

All proceeds will go towards the maintenance of the North Baths.
