Thurso Players sent out an announcement that its popular Christmas pantomime, usually held in Thurso High School, is regrettably cancelled this year due to the pandemic.

A message from its chairman reads: "It’s with deep regret that we have made the difficult decision not to go ahead with this year’s pantomime.

"The team have been working tirelessly behind the scenes since March to try to overcome the limitations of the emerging situation, but despite our best efforts we have no choice but to cancel Panto 2020.

"Thurso Players need to put the health of our members and the public first, and while it may be possible, although highly unlikely, that we could have access to the high school at some point, the realities of the current situation mean that rehearsals cannot go ahead at the Mill.

"We understand that everyone will be disappointed, as are we, but we hope that you will continue to support us through these unprecedented times.

"We have a full programme that we hope will go ahead next year, and we look forward to welcoming you back when it is safe to do so."
