A new local charity – The Wick at Both Ends – has raised £350 for Ukraine after staging its first event.

Last Sunday's fundraiser, held in the yard at the Parish Manse in Miller Avenue, Wick, was organised by local business woman Theodora Hunt who runs the DrGoat Dairy.

Commenting on how everything went, she said: "We had a great turn out on the day and much interest in our raffle and Goatobooth where the kids could have their photos taken with our friendly dairy goats.

"A special thank you to all the local businesses who donated money to Ukraine for their stalls – we ended up raising £350. The good people of Wick St Fergus Church have also been a great support in my efforts to create this charity fundraiser and on a personal level."

Theodore said: "I have been here a couple of years and wanted to do something that would involve the community and bring people together.

"Anyone who knows me, knows I’m always doing something – always have a new business project on, or am scheming up my next venture. I recently applied to offer a home to a Ukrainian family but the process is taking a long time so I wanted to help more quickly.

"I also wanted to combine fundraising for good causes with boosting the local community and helping people make friends or just getting out to meet new people."

The locally-based business women hopes that events will be held every six to eight weeks, raising money for a different charitable cause each time.

Sunday's event was a group effort with other local business owners helping out – Jess Finan of Seawolf Wildlife Tours and Richard Lawrence of Shiro Chalets assisting with the preparations.

Among the other local businesses setting up stalls on the day were Coastline, The Caithness Aromatics Company, Caithness Candle Company, A Bit O Bling, North Coast Woodturning and The Fairy's Workshop.

As well as getting the opportunity to meet some friendly goats, visitors to the event were also able to take part in a bumble bee hunt with Seawolf Wildlife Tours.

Theodora is in the process of opening a new cocktail bar in the town, set to be based in the former Cabrelli's Café premises at the Camps.
